The upgrading of the interport system
The Interporto of Abruzzo, as a priority, is working to overcome a number of bottlenecks that can limit the level of overall efficiency of the structure. Specifically, this means dealing with exogenous factors, such as road and rail connections which could be improved.
Circulation, signals and safety
As regards the connection with the rail network, IVP has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Region of Abruzzo and RFI SpA for a project which will facilitate circulation, railway signalling and safety. This is yet to be implemented in the stretch between Chieti and the Interporto, and will see modifications in the operating system which was introduced in the start-up phase.
The adjustment of the Centralised Traffic Control System would allow the Interporto to use its internal shunting sidings for freight flows as a railhead.
The realization of the circulation and signalling system in the stretch between Chieti and Manoppello, which the Protocol envisages should take place within 30 months of opening the siding, would substantially speed up the transit of convoys and the maintenance of the operating lines, without affecting the line potential.

A25 motorway exit
Connections with road and motorway networks are set to change shortly with the development of a new motorway exit on the A25 which will be just 1.5km from the entrance to the Interporto of Abruzzo. This will significantly improve the inflow and outflow of road freight originating from or destined for the area of the interport, because in the immediate catchment area this stretch of road interconnects with other major road networks.
